I'm Finally Here!!!

So, I've been in the US for 4 days already and I've not even experienced jetlag, so thankful!

The flight was only 7 1/2 hours long and was such a good one, not a fan of long haul flights, but that was go comfy! The New York skyline is incredible from the sky. And also, because we landed in Newark, we could even see New York City from the ground as we landed. New Brunswick, New Jersey is SO pretty, such a cute college town. All of the buildings are so cute and individual and there is about 8 inches of snow still and it is severely cold....

My apartment is incredible. All of my flatmates are so sweet and hilarious. I bet we're going to get along so well. Oh, and a major thing about America is the fact that everyone loves the British accent, I've been told before, but not to this extent! I don't even know why, I really don't like my accent...

Also, food here in INSANE. Portions are HUGE. all I wanted was a "small" drink of Pepsi and I got given what I would call a large.. Crazy. Can totally see myself turning obese within the next few months.... joy... at least the gym is free of charge!

I've only really met international students at the moment, mainly from England and Australia as the US students are arriving back today for the start of semester tomorrow. Really want to meet some cool Americans haha

packing is hard to do.

I am attempting to choose the outfits I want to wear for the next 5 months. and then cut that amount down to a reasonable pile that I can actually pack and take with me.

This is so hard to do........I just want to take everything with me. sigh....

Show on Broadway!!!

My friends are going to NYC a month after I move there, and I'll be going with them to New York City to watch American Idiot: The Musical... on BROADWAY!

Watching a show on Broadway was on my "to-do list" for this trip. I just wasn't sure which show to pick, but this is definitely a good choice.

Also, we're going to one of the dates where Billie Joe Armstrong is actually performing as St. Jimmy! And I hear we have pretty amazing seats! SO EXCITED.

My American Food List

So, I recently found out that the nearest Nando's to me in the US is a 4 hour drive. SAY WHAAAAAT?! Here, it is literally a walk down the road. hmmmmm

Anyway, I'm pretty sure there will be many many other restaurants that I can visit that will impress my tastebuds.

(Being a vegetarian usually makes it harder but I've been told that the States cater well to this....we'll see!)

This is the current list of restaurants/bars/cafes I want to experience. Hopefully I will be able to do them all!

  • Chipotle
  • Wendy's
  • Pinkberry
  • Genghis Grill
  • TGI Fridays (I know we have this too, but I've never been!)
  • Hershey's Store (surely this exists in NYC, no?)
  • Dylan's Candy Bar (in NYC)
  • Taco Bell
  • Sonic
  • McDonald's (just to compare)
  • and many more to add

I have also come to the terms that there is a slight chance I will return twice my size!

New Brunswick, New Jersey

When I was choosing where to study in the States, I looked at so many different options. Massachusetts, Tennessee, Arizona, Illinois, even Toronto and so far as Australia!
But I ultimately decided on New Jersey as it was a well reputable university and the 15th oldest in the whole of the States. It had a very good success rate for my course and the location was close to perfect.

I stumbled across this book and it explains all about the town of NB and the now-famous punk & hardcore underground music scene that grew massively there in the late 80s/early 90s, mentioning bands such as Bouncing Souls, Lifetime & Midtown. It heavily mentions the university I will be going to as the author went there himself. It talks about local college shows and college bands and small local shows. This is exactly what I'd love to go to. New Jersey has been famous for its crowds & its good music scene so I thought it would be the best place for me.

Not to mention its amazing location!

Just 45 minutes away from NEW YORK CITY! What more could you want?! And very close to Philadelphia also.

1st post!

Hello :)

I thought I'd start this little blog to update my journey to the US of A.
And also so I can remember all the things I will have done during the next 6 months.

I am moving from the UK to New Jersey, USA to study at a US university (or "college") to experience the American way of learning.

It's always been a dream of mine to study in the States and I genuinely cannot believe that it is actually happening. So incredibly excited!

I will try to update this as much as I can, if I ever manage to find any free time to do so!
